On Westin tube steps # 22-5025-1105 the shorter pad will be the front pad on both sides of the 2011 Ford Expedition. You should be able to read the Westin name if facing the vehicle looking down at the pads. If you were inside the vehicle looking at the pads the Westin name would be upside down.

The rocker panels are plenty strong enough for the capacity of the steps. The sheer strength and clamp force of a fully threaded in 3/8 inch bolt exceeds what a person weighs.
